Respond to situations of risk

Person being wheeled in a wheelchairWhile on the one hand you need to provide appropriate care to meet the person’s needs, treat them with respect and maintain their right to privacy, on the other you have a responsibility to ensure no harm comes to them during the provision of care. You must ensure you identify risks or potential risks. How you do this, needs to be balanced with ensuring the person’s independence is not lost. This could lead to the person feeling disempowered.
