A more appropriate view is to see health, particularly optimal health, as being a person’s best possible physical and mental functioning. Whether you are working in aged care, home support, mental health or disability services, you have a duty of care to ensure that more than their basic needs are met. While everyone has a need for food and shelter, most people also share a need for love and a sense of belonging. Many people also want fulfilment and to feel valued. You should always seek ways to help a person maximise their participation in all aspects of life.
